“The idea behind Midnight Oil Publisher was born in San Francisco in the early aughts, when founder Ashley Rindsberg was helping develop the Internet Bookmobile project at famed digital NGO Internet Archive. At the Archive, Ashley would make public domain books like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz late into the night—by hand and with loving care, using a printer, a binding machine and a cutter—to be given out to local schools and underprivileged kids. This ideal of bringing light to the world, inspired Ashley to start Midnight Oil Publishers.
